PEN @ GS8621




The long awaited PEN Crew exhibition is finally up in adFunture GS8621 on 11/28. I've been working with the boys long and hard on this one. Their work caught my attention over 6 months ago, and I started working with them to develop more projects for adFunture. It was our absolute pleasure to be able to provide a platform for these 4 young creatives. Quite a few products were made for this, for example, mesh caps, tees. But the most interesting item was the 18 pairs of customed Air Force 1 Mid by PEN. The idea behind the design is fresh, the graphics and end result is not too flashy. We wanted people to be able to actually rock these sneakers, and not just ice them.

As for myself, adFunture's last sneaker project was back in 2004 with SBTG, so I was quite looking forward to this new edition.

adFunture Workshop


So alot of people asked us why we have a few new sections on our site like adFunture+, adFunture Workshop, Edvolut, etc. And they can't really see the difference. Yes, is confusing, isn't it?

Actually, is not. Or, should I say it will not be.

"adFunture+" is a special product line that we have lined up. Mostly very limited pieces, or, stocked in specific spots. You'll see more from this line starting Jan of 2007.

EDVOLUT is actually my "pet label", where I do special projects with the brands or items that I like personally, and might not actually fit the usual adFunture product categories. For example, the E009 denim is under the EDVOLUT label.

Most people do not question the section "adFunture Workshop", since this was the name we started with 4yrs ago. So, to most people, adFunture Workshop is our full company.

Well, actually, we are about to make a twist here.

Most designer toys labels now, like adFunture, don't actually run their own factories. Is normal. Designer toys productions are low in volume, by nature, and it doesn't really make sense for brands to manage a full blown factory to produce their runs of 500 to 2000 units of figures. So, these production jobs are usually outsourced. Normal. So, sign a designer to design, source a factory (or a trading company in HK and have that trading company look for a factory) to produce, distribute the products yourself or go thru a national distributor. Typical. adFunture ran for 4yrs under the very same business model.

This model has its upsides, and downsides.

We especially put "adFunture Workshop" as a separate label a few months ago, because we knew it is time to change our model. It is time to finally gain full control.

We are opening our very own adFunture Factory. Mainly concentrating on designer vinyls. High quality vinyl, detailed paint jobs, low runs. All under our control 100%. This ensures our own quality standard, and delivery time. This also means we skip all middlemen, and no lack time.

To individual artists, that means adFunture can now take on your production jobs individually and personally.

That's the new ADFUNTURE WORKSHOP.

EDVOLUT 009 Splatter

A collaboration between adFunture and Eblis Hungi Denim. Production run set at 150 pairs. Quality jeans by Eblis Hungi caught my attention a few months ago, so this collaboration is inevitable. I spent many hrs with Suzzy and Homin working out the designs, and patterns. No hype like the "other" collaboration jeans, this is just a simple, down to earth everyday wearable. This item should hit adFunture GS in 2 weeks.

Brace yourselves.

Gibson x Harley Davison. One off. Something we helped with recently. This piece will be auctioned off in 2 weeks, I was told. A very nice guitar. The graphic was drawn from one of the Harley tank designs.

One Time Only Pack

Got a few One-Time-Only AirMax in this week. Sick. The mix between legendary AirMax uppers and the new AM360 air cushions is simply amazing. The shape is ill, the colorways are crazy, and you don't need me to tell you how comfortable the AirMax are. I know, I'm nuts.

Just let me get the Footscape Woven 360, then I'm set.

A few months ago, I was told that a very high priced AF1 will come out, and the didn't exactly know what Nike had up their sleeves. The price tag wasn't the problem, the question was "what made it so expensive?"

Well, answer: Only limited to 300 pairs, the materials its made out of consists of hand worked Genuine Ostrich Scraps & Spitting Cobra Snakeskin by LBL by Eamon.

Ok... Price? USD $1,200.

What can I say? Expensive? Well, its high priced, but can't really say it is very expensive, given the fact that if this is a LV Bag made of the same material, people are paying it with no problem. Of course, not everyone....

ENO Opening


Shortly after the debut of da>space, good friend Richard came talked to me about a new Chinese lifestyle brand that he was helping to build. We talked about many ideas. Nothing concrete, just ideas. Talked about how adFunture and myself can collaborate with this young brand in China.

As months passed, the project continued.

On this past Friday, that very brand, that very flagship store finally opened. ENO.

The opening party of a 32-artists group exhibition event. Speakers. Each artist customized a speaker. This was also an idea that Richard had talked to me about so many times even before this brand's idea surfaced. It was very interesting to see this exhibition idea realized by Richard. I was more than happy for this good friend.

As for our collaborations, adFunture product range are available at ENO Shop, and WZL has also designed a range of apparel for this brand. Hope everything works well.


Went visit them in the afternoon before their official opening. People were still mad busy in getting ready. That's normal.

For a few months now, we were all busy getting ready for this gig. 5 weeks of Guerilla Shop in da>space, 5 installations 1 per week. New goodies dropping every weekend. If not in our own space, I really don't know where else we can host this event.

Tonight, 8pm, the doors opened.

Mary and Jukai were the big winners tonight.

PERK invited me to go to their friend's art show opening tonight, it was a show by 2 Europe illustrators, I quite like their works. Will post more info about them later.

Also spent some time catching up with Perk. They will be responsible for the installation works for the 2nd week of the GS concept.

Came back to the studio and picked out which artworks by WZL will be used next week in GS8621. Man... is now 4:35am...

Friday, October 6th

Family Time




Today was Chinese' Mid-Autumn Day. Of course, traditionally, I spent the dinner with family. Had another long chat with my parents about what I'm up to and all that shit. Well, that basically happens everytime we sit down for a meal nowadays. No complaints.

After that, it was time to meet up with DA>CREW for DA>DRINKS! Ended up being another one of those meetings.. til 2am... Bloody hell, do we get to have a life still?? :-)

Jeans Night @ Fabrique

Was asked to go to this party at Fabrique tonight, got the call around 9:30pm. Was supposed to join up with J at BONBON, but decided to swing on by to see my bro Homin to see what the fuzz was all about. Why not?!

Haven't been to this Fabrique club in some time. The place changed a bit, and the crowd has changed big times. Jeans night, so we saw alot of guys sporting Eblis Hungi gear. I was happy for Homin because his stuff are well accepted here in China. Go on, Homin, keep makin' them good lookin' jeans.

I decided to jet early though.

Thanks for the invite, but I was really too tired to talk to those girls tonight. Maybe another night, uh, bro.

Maybe about the whole GS storm. I need to rest up after this month-long event. Come this November, count me in for every friggin' party in town, but before that, call Chris instead!
