DGPH Mole Ride - TOPO Release

DGPH got on their MOLE RIDE US TOUR starting with the first stop at Munky King Melrose. I see that our TOPO figures made it for the opening.

That marks the official release of TOPO, both Original and DIY Versions. Always happy to see our artist can be there for their own product launch. It might be even better if all of us were there as well. But we had to stay back and work on the other releases, so maybe next time. Congratulations to Diego and Martin for the grand show opening, and I'm sure the rest of the tour will just get better and better as well.

Yoho / Karting / FLIPPED

Yoho Magazine and Nokia are working on a web project, and live events to celebrate this web project took place in 4 different Mainland cities. Shanghai stop was last night. Our boy Chris, one of the coolest editors for the magazine, was the leader for the Shanghai tour, so our whole studio gang showed up at the party. Always did well with making connections with different folks, but never a good public speaker, we figured out we'll be there for Chris as moral support. Our clapping actually scared him off a bit... oops..

Anyways. A fun party. Taiwanese entertainer Berlin Chen was the star of the night. Here we have him surrounded by the chinese media... (photo below). The guy with nobody surrounding was Chris... (photo above)... Ya... When will we start giving editors more credit??

After the party, a group of us decided to go Karting.. Yeah, talk about drinking and driving. One of our lady friends, JieJie, was actually a bit scary behind the wheels, we were bascially steppin' on the gas, trying to go as fast as we could just to get da fuck outta her way. 'Cos we know, if she catches up, she will slam into us for sure, and that's gonna hurt alot! After 2 rounds, most of us had enough, but Chris and JieJie went on a bet; For cash and a Cartier ring... Photo was above was Chris trying to outrun JieJie, and did so for the first 6 laps, only to lost the lead from then on and lost! Yup, Chris lost. Lost cash and his Cartier ring to a girl OVER GO-KARTING!!! Sucka! Nicely done.

And speaking of drinking and driving, THIS happened when we were coming back from the factory this afternoon, on the highway. Yup, this truck just flipped!!!! Luckily nobody was hurt from this, but needless to say, his "produce" were all over the pavement .... Kids, don't drink and drive. (maybe he didn't drink, and the sunny dry road was still too slippery for him, I don't know)

W+K Shanghai / Perk Boy

This came in today, a house-label tee by Wieden+Kennedy Shanghai. We have always enjoyed their creative advertisements, now we can rock some of their fun ideas on apparels. Hey, I'm all for it. Here we have a Head-Set composed by 2 Nike sneakers. The photo doesn't do this piece justice.

For those who have seen our Perk Boy figure a few months back, feast your eyes on this one! What happened was that I was in the W+K studio chatting with Frank (CD of W+K Shanghai), and he liked the Perk Boy so much they decided to have a gigantic one standing in their backyard... Photo was John Jay standing beside it, that's huge. How does this one compares to the Companion?? haha Nicely done.

Daniel B-Day / G-Shock

Our boy Daniel celebrated his 21st birthday the Chinese way.... lots of people and liquor trapped in one KTV room...

Daniel has been a hard working editor for a magazine here in Mainland ever since I met him (well, not that long, since he's only 21.) The occasional model, he's a very sincere character that we've all grown to love. D, happy birthday to you, and we look forward to your 22nd. It was a fun party, we need to do that again even before your next birthday.

Casio sent over a kind gift; their new model of G-Shock C-Cube watch, 011D. Heavy, slick, a bit different from their classic plastic specimens.

Don't know about other peeps, but I'd wear this with a shirt and jeans, or a suit, even. When just kicking back with a t-shirt and jeans, I'll stick with my old favorite G-shock 6900 or 5600.

A few months back I came across this gem in the Casio head office. Well, gem to me, because I remember playing with this when I was a kid. Western Bar game console by Casio. A simple game that we used to play at the table while parents were having lunches with their friends.

Bring back memories. Nice to be able to get this is deadstock mode.

The new games that we get to play today are sooo much advanced in terms of graphics. Of course. Was playing the Mario Kart at the arcade last night.... the sounds, and graphics, Western Bar can't compare.

Rex visiting / 俞思远

Rex paid us a visit today in our studio. His first visit and might be his first time seeing so many designer figures in one room. A group of us was there just chillin' and chattin' for a few hours. It was a relaxing day for the young popstar, and he was just playing with whatever he can get his hands on. The adFunture x Eipiphone guitar was one of his victims.

Rex Yu (俞思远) is one of today's brighest up and coming pop stars in the Mainland. He raised to fame after winning a national singing contest in Summer of 2006. While contests like American Idols are popping up left and right in China for the past 3 years, we don't often see a talent that has the longivity of sustaining popularity. Rex has been proving himself both in actual talents and popularity. His band will be releasing their second album this X'mas. I'm sure his fans can hardly wait that long. But hey, good stuff takes time.

It was good talking to you, Rex. I'm sure we'll be seeing each other more often in the near future.

Crab Time...

Is that time of the year again, one of the most loved Shanghaiese dishes serves up; Hairy Crabs. Well, the legs are quite hairy on these crabs, so hence the name. Hong Kong people love this dish, some might even tell you that HK and Japan love this dish even more than the Shanghaieses themselves. I'm gulity for being one of them. Each year, a bunch of our friends will eat at a round table and have a crab feast. Just delicious food shared with great friends. Why not?!

每年在上海都很期待这个时候。可能香港人比上海人更爱吃这个……

Tears in Heaven



I can't even remember which year it was when I bought the "Eric Clapton Unplugged" album in Toronto. Loved this song ever since. Figured I would put it up here to share with everybody. Working Weekend

Another Sat. at the studio and factory. Same old, I guess. No big news, announcement, or previews here for you today if that's what you're looking for.

We have been working hard in the past months. Trying to rebuild something that we kinda broke last year with all the production fiasco. And we need to make damn sure we surpass what we said we were able to accomplish. There is the lineup card, and then there's the delivery schedule. The lineup card is kinda useless if we can't deliver the products, isn't it?! :-) We know. And we'll deliver.

The question is; Can you collect them all once they are delivered? There'll be alot delivered in terms of selection. Good luck and have fun.

Nike Canvas Air Force 1

The new Canvas Air Force 1 by Nike arrived the studio. Whenever we see canvas, we think customization. It would be interesting to see how some of the headz out there will do with this new specimen of Air Force One. With the right mixture of paint and colors, we might see magic. Thank you Alex and Nike China for the kind gift.

Izanai / Special Comic

Izanai was in our Shanghai studio for work meeting this week. A very creative individual that caught our immediately attention the first time we saw his work a few months back. We have been working together on a project since then.

Besides adFunture projects, he has been involved in numberous art exhibitions and side projects as well. The recent Tetobag (really, is spelled Tetobag) that he designed for Yomme is quite nice. Very reasonably priced, just them trying to share good looking items with more friends. Not priced aggressively at all.

Another project that Izanai has just finished was this Special Comic. A 366-page comic compilation of over 10 artists in the Mainland. Very nicely bounded, and printed. The retro cover was a special touch. We will be distributing this product for him internationally. This arrangement was just an immediate reaction after seeing what he has done with this comic book. Very proud of our friend with his work, and of course, with his friends as well.

9/11




9/11. 6 yrs passed. A day that many will never forget. I wasn't even living in the US that day, and I could still remember the sense of horror driving around in Toronto that morning. That sense of disbelief.

Who is leading his nation into all that has happened? Interesting to witness a great presidency.

Monday, September 10th

ADDY. for ADD

A few ago, we were asked by Italian down jacket label ADD to help produce a designer figure for its brand. It was interesting to see that the company did not want to use yet another platform toy to represent itself, and has chosen to develop its own character from scratch. We enjoyed the project very much, because we didn't often see such a move from clothing brands, especially not from a down jacket company. Well, the figure is not completed, and yes, it was meant to be white. His name is ADDY.

It was definitely a blast working with Maurizio and his team on this figure. Hope Addy will be well recieved in Italy.

这段时间，adFunture正忙着一个意大利项目。朋友的羽绒服品牌ADD在欧洲已活跃多年，这位意大利朋友对他自己的品牌和产品更有着一种非一般的热情。前一阵子，他提出了一个有趣的要求：adFunture为他的ADD制作一款Designer Figure。他很希望可以有一个人物来代表他的品牌。我们很快便进行了开发程序。第一次作意大利地区别注，一次挺特别的合作。

Sunday, September 9th

Happy to see that some shops in the States already have the G-Robots available for retail. Always excited to see or hear how people react to our projects and products. And for Jukai's G-Robots, so far so good.

As for the next round of goodies, while folks are already getting excited about the 123Klan 10" Teddy Troop, DGPH's TOPO is actually our very next release. A small allotment will go out to LA to meet with its designer, DGPH, for the Argentian crew's exhibition at Munky King Melrose. Vinylpulse has already posted some dates for DGPH's US Tour, so do check it out if interested. As for Topo itself, we are very pleased with the figure and the character itself is certainly growing on me as well.

4 variants in the works. I spill the beans here because the designs will actually be printed on the side of the boxes anyways, so this won't be any secret anyways. Hope you will enjoy Mr. Topo and some folks might even consider giving friends the Topo as their X'mas gift. In thinking so, we priced it rather reasonably, I'd say, in hope more friends can enjoy this wonderful little piece.

Wade / Revelator / Devilock

Wade, the mastermind behind Taiwanese streetwear label REVELATOR, visited Shanghai this week. He came over to the studio for the first time, and checked out what we had going in the works. We met in Taipei a few months ago, and it was a pleasure having him in Shanghai this time around. Spent some time together in the city, and discussed what the future holds for Mainland's streetwear culture.

It was fun having you here, Wade. Let's make something happen.

Even before I set up adFunture 5 yrs ago, I paid close attention to the Japanese label DEVILOCK. The brand was a clothing brand foremost, but did alot of cool things for the street culture in its 12 yrs of existence. Remember those PALMBOYS? All Devilock's. Personally, I consider Palmboys as one of the icons of early "designer figures". And all those great parties as well. Mad respect for Endo and his Devilock crew.

好几年前开始，一直有留意Endo San与他的Devilock品牌。当然没有像BAPE或Neighborhood般大受潮流杂志力撑，但Devilock这日本街牌也活跃了十二年之久。街牌与Designe Toy的发展其实很有关联。两者在某程度上彼此需要。还记得当年红过一时的Devilock Palmboy玩偶系列。也算得上是早期"潮流玩具"的一个icon。

123 Klan 10 Incher! / Mell / Red Dot

This is so far one of my personal favorite 10" Teddy Troops. Designed by Scien and Klor of 123Klan, this 10 incher carries the quality that we are proud of. They are already finished, but will be released in November.

Happy to get confirmation that the last shipment of Reach's FU Teddy Troops have already landed in US and Germany, this 123Klan TT would be the next one for collectors to "wait upon". The better news is: they actually finished production already. So, in 2 months "adFunture time", that's 6 months in Earth Time, you guys can find this on your local dealers' shelves.

In the recent visit to Bangkok, I revisited an old friend. Mell is the person that I'd go to for some exotic skinned accessories whenever I was in Thailand. Mell is the craft-lady who hand-made all her wallets, bracelets, wallet chains, etc... Real skins, not like her "competitors" who use fake skins on their stuff. This time, Mell hooked me up with a nice little wallet chain made with python skin, a red python. These stuff aren't expensive to purchase in Bangkok, just a little accessory that I like to use here and there.

Thank you, Mell, for this wonderful. I love the colors on this. See you next time in BKK.


每次到BKK都会找Mell。她是专手造皮具的一位朋友。当然，在泰国这类型的皮包皮带多的是，但一直喜欢用Mell做的手工。蛇皮，Stingray，各样各式。不是什么名牌，只是货真价实的小饰物。这次她帮我弄了条钱包链，用上了一条红色的大王蛇。红皮上露出一点黑。配色挺好看，这次就只这条作到BKK的纪念品。

Part of our crew went to Red Dot to celebrate the Shanghai restaurant's 5th anniversary. Well, it was also my father's birthday dinner. Drinking between the two companies' staff, it was a crazy night.

Tons of projects going on lately, a bit more than we can chew on. But pressure is always good. While we are sorting out the Europe projects, we have shut down our Chinese website for a while. It will go back up, when we are ready. Stay tuned. (well, not like English readers actually goes to our Chinese site anyways, who am I talking to?!)

最近adFunture在国内比较沉静下来了。中文website也短期内关掉，为着新的排版预设定。大家不要误会，adFunture会继续发展国内业务。其实在这一切的背后，我们正忙着好几个项目。早前提及过的欧洲店已足够让我们忙不过来…有几个合作项目进行中，相信大家一定会喜欢。

MODIFIED BKK

Hooked up with Nat at Modified for a short chat. Heard so much about his shop, and had always wanted to check it out in person. I was 1 day too late however. The shop is now shut down. Nat is a cool cat, and I'm sure his MS Invader brand will gain more interests over time as well. Some good things going on in BKK.

Thanks for the Portable Panic Players cap, Nat. Loving it.

一直都说要来看看Nat开设的Modified店子。Modified是Nat和Futura在BKK合作开的店，专卖Futura为Nat设计的一系列服装。因工作关系，一直没有来到BKK深访。跟Nat碰面才知道原来Modified在我到BKK的前一天正式结业了。我来晚了一天。真对不起。跟Nat聊了很久，也去了他另一家店，Kinky，那里卖着他另一个自设品牌MS Invader。Nat还是十分乐观呢。很好。在离开Modified的空间前，Nat送了我他留下来的一件Portable Panic Players tee，和帽子。十分感动。创业真的是不容易，不管有谁能帮一把，最重要的还是靠自己。

Sunday, September 2nd

Bangkok Day 2

Skytrain, the only way to travel in Bangkok. "stay in the trenches, make use of the subway" (Al Pacino)

Apparently, the meters in taxis are not often used, one will have to bargain with the cab driver before every ride. Which really sucks for tourists... Well... I had 2 days of this so far. I'll take the Skytrains, thank you very much.

Paid a visit to Siam Sq, Central World, Zen, Emporium Mall, etc. A long day, but I enjoyed seeing what the young people here are offered with in the consumer markets. Met up with some friends here as well. Will write a bit more about those good folks later.
