working samples

P1040824 (64k image)

Working on the BUKA Series. along with other on-going projects such as Teddy Troops.. Making samples are always Step 1. Some of Buka's designs were disclosed during TTF, so I guess showing you a few samples won't hurt. Is not like it is a big secret or anything.

LEFTY, in the background, is also something new.

Gotta go keep on cookin' now. Cheers.

Working Monday

P1040808 (153k image)

Another week, another Monday. Working on a few new projects this month, it would be interesting to see everybody's reaction. We missed the SDCC, but I am able to see the photos online. Our fellow toy markers are pulling out all the stops to make these figures stand out, and a great job they did.

Designer toys coming closer and closer as being "art pieces"??? I always thought we were producing art pieces.... Hmm...

Prototyping a few new sculpts this week, will post some shots later.

New ride

P1040823 (93k image)

The new company finally showed up today. Little did I know, we traded in our 10-seater for a 7-seater Buick...

The ride to the factory has improved dramatically.... :-)

Farewell JB

P1040761 (77k image)

The last ride in our company car, 5 yrs it took us from factory to factories, coast to coast. We put heavy heavy milage on this sucker. I slept many many hrs in it... during Jiang's drive to the destinations. It served us well, but it can no longer run, so....

NEXT!!!!

Karting

P1040685 (126k image)

It has been ages since my last go-karting ride. For 5 yrs now, I've been saying that I must visit one of those karting tracks in Shanghai, and always managed to missed out the opportunity. and for the only time I actually made it out there with a group of friends, that damn place got closed down...

Well, last weekend, finally, I made it out to the track. No big deal to American friends, since karting tracks are pretty common in the US and Canada. To me, though, sure brought back memories. I'll be going back there again soon.

Remix x Subcrew x Allan x Yoho

P1040509 (116k image)

Caught up with Sam Lee and Allan Ke in Taipei for the G-Talk feature in our monthly dose for Yoho Magazine in China. Of course, Remix crew was in the mix as well. A 4-way interview session. Interesting as hell.

Remix Taipei, one of Taipei's most promising street wear labels. Headed by Eric and Kenji. Sincere folks.

Sam Lee, from the entertainment world as well as his own Subcrew clothing label, might be known to most toy headz from his range of figures he produced with Eric So and Estate back in da day. Remember the 12" figures by Hot Toys; Revolver jackets, BAPE shoes, etc, SDU, Bling Bling, etc? That's all him. Very interesting guy. Charismatic fellow to say the least.

Then we have Allan Ke. Up and coming entertainer in Asia. Can't say I know too much about him other than the fact that he loves figures. But I'm sure we'll be seeing alot more of him down the road. Big up!

WTF

P1040434 (164k image)

Got up in the morning, thought it would be just another day in adfunture land, well, guess what, IT WAS exactly like just another day where shit just hits the fan.

While we felt good thinking that our latest shipment of goods are already on their merry way to our distributors, they weren't. Just like a grade 12th teacher standing in front of the school, seeing a returning student who he thought has graduated and left the school for good, "What da hell are you doing coming back??"

Oh well. Okay. We'll just have to send them back out there again. A boat ride to North America should take around 3 weeks. So, we are another month late again. Shoot me.

While this is not a serious issue since our products are not "seasonal goods", so arriving one month early or one month late doesn't really affect collectors, what will affect collectors will be the fact all of a sudden there'll be a few Teddy Troops on the market. Don't know how the collectors will react to the selections that will become available to them all at the same time. We always try to pace our releases so that no collector should go broke every month when collecting what they love, but this delay of shipment might mean one will have to buy all 4 big Teddy Troops within one or 2 months. We'd hate to see true Teddy Troop collectors having to hunt on ebay and paying inflated prices afterwards. This might be a rough ride.

So yeah, I said it, 3 new 10"ers.

Lightwriting by Lichtfaktor

Haven't visited Marc and Sara's site in a while, the Wooster Collective, always enjoy reading their entries. The duo have found an interest in what is known as "light writing" lately, and this Lichtfaktor was quite interesting to say the least. If you want to know more about what light writing is, or, check out more artists with their writing, stick to the Wooster site. I'm sure the two have tons of these goodies in their harddrives.

Hope all is well, M&S. And a big congrats to you about the new family member on the way. :-)

W+K One

P1040608 (171k image)

This book arrived, W+K one, a collection of works that Wieden+Kennedy Shanghai has done in their first official year in China. A great book in its own right, with very high quality photographs. Happy to see "I,WZL" figures in the pages as well.

It was a fun year working with them, great folks there. It has been a pleasure.

SDCC

P1040273 (122k image)

Got quite a few emails asking us where the adFunture booth will be at SDCC. Well, we won't be there, so, no booth.

We have opted out SDCC for the past 2 years already, and we decided to skip this one as well. It is a good event, a great venue to meet with collectors, but if we don't have enough goods to show to you guys, I really see no point to be there. While you guys are shopping at SDCC, we'll be continuing to cook in the kitchen, as quite a few goodies are still in the works. The kitchen smells like Teddy Troops lately, if you know what I mean. I counted 1, 2, 3 styles in the works. :-) Stay tuned on that front.

And yes, the FU Teddy Troops are still on the boat. Relax guys, they are on their way. China is not an one hr drive. :-P

On the TT front, I must admit, I do read different blogs and forums, and some of the speculations I've reading are not all correct. Some of the drawings shown on certain forums are not in the production lineup. It never was. Not to say never will, but at least, not now. There are, however, tons of items that were never shown to public, and won't be showing up online anytime soon. We'll keep those ideas to ourselves until they are ready to serve. I hate to have you guys over excited.

TTF was a fun show, showed quite a few new projects there. Those, I can admit, are in the works, so be on the look out. The rest will remain a mystery.

Interview with Sarah of Colette

Taken from Black Rainbow, an interview by Jay Smith with Sarah of Colette.

Colette has been a very strong influence in adFunture's growth and history, and a large group of folks in our culture is celebrating the Parisan culture shop's 10th anniversary with the Colette family. Ms. Sarah Lerfel was the main part of the cultural landmark's success. Busy as always, she took some time out back in May to speak with Jay (BKRW) and shared some of her thoughts about the business, the culture and its future.

Check it out.

And again, Sarah, congratulations for the 10th birthday.

BAPE x DC

P1040386b (159k image)

Paid a visit to the monkey mania, BAPE Store, and picked up 2 figures from the DC Comics x BAPE project. Interesting project, but didn't feel like buying the old school Batman logo printed on a blank Bape tee... for $600hkd, I'd at least try to have a Milo head on it somewhere.. for a regular Batman logo shirt, I think we can get it in the US quite easily... I'm not trying to knock it, I like BAPE's business model, but even with such a strong brand background, I still think if you're gonna ask customers/collectors for such a priced t-shirt, you should bape-it-up a lil more...

Just my 2 cents..

Bananna Dunk

P1040425 (129k image)

Saw this pair of kicks in a skate shop in Taipei.... hmmm... Dunk Hi with a Bananna in place of the Swoosh... a play on the sneaker giant? "Consolidated", I think that's what that label is called, I can't be sure.. I picked it up in my hands, and frankly, it wasn't far from the genuine item. Didn't buy it though.

Too many sneakers looking like Nikes... didn't feel the urge to keep one.

Very cleanly designed boutique + gallery. Caught the opening of the Nike exhibition "Change & Unchange" the day I checked in.

FL Travel Pouch

P1040446 (129k image)

It is pain in the butt to have all these stubs and whatever whenever I travel, so I'm enjoying Futura's design of the traveling pouch that he put out via his Futura Laboratory label. Very functional pockets and divisions with an ipod case plus a keychain bag in there, zip it up, and wrapped around with Futura's famous FLOM print. Very nice.

Caught one of the infamous BNE stickers in West Side of Taipei. Interesting material. Try to take one off the surface, I heard is impossible. I didn't even bother trying when I saw this one.

One of my personal favorite as a shopper during this year's TTF. A piece by Wonderful Design Works. This is the "bad guy" from their character series. Simple but cool. Congrats and thanks Kato.

Remix Taipei mixing it well

P1040177 (113k image)
Paid the Remix crew a lil visit in Taipei, of course. They moved into a new studio, and that space just made me a little jealous! 2 floors of creative streetwear goodness.

Kenji and Eric made sure to hook us up with some tight limited stuff made for Battle of the Year, and those goodies are ill. Photos after the jump.

Thanks to the Remix crew for the hospitality.

Dunk Trainer Free

P1040587 (121k image)

Talk about ultra hybirds, this came in; the Mita edition of Dunk Trainer Free by Nike.

Mixing your Dunk Hi with Air Trainer uppers, adding the Free sole on the bottom. To spice it up Japanese style, ill colors and 4 types of leather were used. That's sick. Definitely one of my new favorite kicks.

Taipei Toy Festival 2007

P1040144 (124k image)

Participated in Taipei Toy Fest this past weekend. Lots to write about, but I guess for now, a picture speaks a thousand words. This is half of the shelf space we used, thanks to Pixie and Mark, of course. A very nice outting for the crew, it was a good exhibition all in all. Met up with some old friends, and made new friends with many. Always a treat.

Taipei, for me, was all about food and toys. Every July.

Yes, adFunture actually still makes figures... This is the latest sample we cooked up in the factory. Designed by UK outfit Hicalorie.

Let's call him "Lefty".

Why Run?

P1040102 (80k image)

When was the last time you made a run for pleasure? Not running from problems, debts (not all of you have debts, of course), girlfriend (or girlfriends), any negative issues of any sorts. Just run to breath the air. To enjoy the sunny day out, call it a work-out or what have you.

I haven't done so in so long.

Prime Tee

P1020005 (143k image)

2 days before our trip to Taipei to participate in the Taipei Toy Festival, last minute checking to see if everything is ready was in order. Hitted up the factory first thing Monday morning, and saw that the production line is on progress as scheduled, always nice to see. New samples are available for the trip. The special Buka (mentioned before) is nearly finished. And finally approved 2 new sculpts, that means new projects, people, unique sculpts. I was an excited kid all over again.

Came back to the studio and caught the photo shoot they had going on for the new Swavroski tee we produced. Yoyo modeled it for us, thank you Yoyo. Alot of Swavroski crystals went onto this tee, for the girls cut, there are over 430 crystals on it, now imagine the man's cut, which is a larger print.. larger print, more crystals to match.. Loving it. We expect folks will be rocking this shirt to the Transformer movie opening..

SHANGHAI COMIC CON

P1040030b (149k image)

Shanghai Comic Con went down this past weekend, we were invited to perform live graffiti on skateboards again with Quiksilver. This was the last stop in our 3-stops tour in Shanghai. I was schedule to perform this time as well. Quite interesting for persoanl sake. Chose to go with the matt black color scheme. A simple example, with I liked how the color-mix came out.
