BERENJENA - IS HERE!!
Friday, January 19th

Goodbye, Jack. RIP.

0325e (56k image)

Got the shocking call in the evening. We had drinks together on Christmas night, just 2 days before he went on his vacation. And it was during this trip, our dear friend Jack was taken away from us.

Jack Peng, the brain behind Ocean Monsters and collaborator of W+K Tokyo Lab, and one of the elites stationed in W+K Shanghai, has accomplished many great things in his young life. An unbelievable creative head, a great gentlemen, and a dear friend.

Jack, you will be missed by all of your friends worldwide, and you'll always be remembered.

Rest in peace.

PS: Sarah, pls get in touch. We are worried about you.

Dinner with Nate

Hooked up with Nate from Gibson Guitars for dinner. He recommended a small Japanese joint, which had pretty good sashmi. We both knew Jack and we spent sometime talking about Jack's accomplishments, a way to pay respect to a dear friend.

M/W James Lavelle in Shanghai

lavelle1 (218k image)

James Lavelle, the owner of the MoWax record label, spinned in Shanghai again this past Thrusday. I missed James' last visit to Shanghai last year, because it was the night before one of our own exhibition openings. Well, I made sure I wouldn't miss this time around.

James put on a heated performance, and of course, the crowd was very much into his music.

Hope you enjoyed your stay in SH, James.

Korean Restaurant in Beijing

korfood (188k image)

As I usually like light dinners, I don't have Korean food very often. I did, however, visited this Korean restaurant when I was in Beijing. The place was very nice, and the food was good. I especially liked how they installed their air-vent. Believe it or not, I was more interested in the rennovation than the food.

The dessert, I must add, was amazing. (Sorry, forgot the name of the place). So I guess this post is kinda pointless...

BMW: Art Cars Exhibition

DSC08222b (94k image)

Apart from the Nike Celebration, another highlight from the recent Beijing trip was the opportunity to visit the Art Cars Exhibit by BMW. I've been a mad Bimmer fan for years, and at one point, I had 4 of them in my garage, of course, 3 out of 4 were older models, E21, 2002tii, E32 735il, and my prided E36 328i. BMW is one common interest that I shared with my father, he used to drive a 732i, and a E34 525i. I had fun with those as well. I used to read alot of books and mags on this Germany car maker. So, "Art Cars Series" was nothing new to me, however, seeing them up close and personal, this would be the first time.

So, here they were, sitting in 798 District, the 525i, 840i, LeMan race car, and the ULTIMATE ULTIMATE in my books; the 3.0CSL. This race-model was one of my dream cars, believe it or not, I almost bought up a rusted 3.0cs in hop to modify it into the same setup. But.. the cost of such modification scared me off. Anyways, this Art Car 3.0cs by Alexander Calder is one of the most iconic BMW images ever. And here it was in front of me.

Amazing.

More photos (and other BMWs coming late).

25 Years of Force

So, Jan 5th, Beijing, 798 Art District. It was where it all happened; Nike's 25 Years of Force Celebration. It was what we all expected it to be; Madness.

I basically saw most of the people I knew all packed in that Nike 706 space. WZL, Frank, Richard, Lei Wan, Kenzo, MC Yan, Sic, V-Nutz, Fortune, Martin, Dong Wei, Lianna, Chris, Nie Zheng, Jason Zheng, too many names to list if I were to list out who I saw there. Even Hiroshi, Futura, Stash, John Jay, Bobbito, Fraser Cooke, Gorgio and Jeff Staple were all in Beijing at night, for the event.

Nike arranged a wonderful night of events for everyone to enjoy. Performance by Chin-Flow, DJ V-Nutz, DJ Bobbito, speech by Issac Perry, rap by Webber, Woody was spinning as well, crazy shit! People didn't want to leave, put it that way.

People were all there to celebrate the 25th anniversary of one of the iconic sneakers ever; the Air Force One.

Well, I left, I left to the after party to continue on the party... can't stop.

Force in BJ

DSC08112b (89k image)

Spent half the day getting to Bejing this morning, checked into the nice Grand Hyatt Hotel, arranged by Nike. Found a beautifully made box of greeting chocolates sitting on the table in the room.

Better get rested up, and get ready to party hard tonight.

Nike AF1 25th Invite

Found this on my table when I came back to the studio after my short FuJian trip. It is the invitation package to the Air Force 1 25th Celebration in Beijing, sent over by the good folks from Nike China. This box was very beautifully made, there is also a t-shirt inside and the "ticket" to the event. The event will be held at the new Nike Engery Center in Beijing's 798 Art District.

Looking forward to the party and its madness.

New Year, another one

Happy New Year everybody!!

Due to the network problems we faced caused by the Taiwan earthquake, we were forced to stay offline for a week or so. MSN was basically un-log-on-able. Well, so much for online greetings...

Anyhow, at least this blog thing still works, so I'd use this venue to greet all the friends and fam out there a happy and healthy 2007.

Yup, another year, another game-plan.

I spent X'mas with J, and New Years Eve with fam. Quality time. Now, BACK TO WORK.

Time really flew by in 2006. We have accomplished a few things in '06, but there are much to be done for '07 as well. The end of 2006 also marked the end of our retail project in Toronto. Yup, Iconic Shop Toronto, the 2-yr retail project with Patrick has come to a close. It was a good run, and a great experience. The partnership was very well executed, and we are set to open in other locations. Toronto was chosen to be the first location due to our roots, but we always knew TO is not the only place we would like to have this store-front. So, where's next? Stay tuned.

DA>SPACE Gallery in Shanghai was the '06 project, and it has received much support and was well embraced by the Mainland public, much love to you all. The '07 schedule will be stronger and better, as always.

adFunture Workshop has also turned a new leaf by finally opening its own factory. It doesn't sound like much, but fuck, it's alot of work. All to ensure better delivery time and product quality. Well, talk is cheap, you'll see what we have cookin'.

Again, have a great year, and I'll catch you guys later.
