10/21/2007: "1933 the Project"

Just lived thru a wonderful weekend in the city, with good friends and new friends. And was brought to this beautiful venue for the first time. A new project here in Shanghai, project 1933.

In the mid-1929 to early 1930's, this place, this plant was a slaughter house (pigs/cows). Designed and built by British back then. They used imported materials and very functional archetictural designs.

Now, this plant is rebuilt and recovered as a creative/retail district. This kind of concepts are happening throughout Mainland, however, being able to start with an already beautiful built establishment is rare. This is one of those great finds.

The rebuilt project houses a glass dome at the top floor, you can see the ground floor under your feet when you stand on that dome. Cute. Some were scared to set foot on that glass floor though. I enjoyed it.

More photos of the project after the jump. Really amazing project, we might even consider moving in there.

A very skilled Chinese singer was performing sitting on the middle of that glass floor, his voice echoed throughout the building. An overwhelming demonstration. Beautiful.
