Beijing Day 2: After the Sparkles
Chinese love a good firework for celebrating a special occasion.
We go nutz lighting up cash during Chinese New Years. This is no news to many.
The brief is that the more fireworks you light up, the more noise you make, the more wealth will come to you in the new year. Not so true, but that's the brief of many.
Wishful thinking.
But how much sparkles are enough?
Well, I dont have the answer to that, but I do know that some one lite up a few too many in Beijing this past New Year...
The well-known CCTV Building here in Beijing, phase 2, with a Mandarin Hotel inside, got burnt down due to firework-mishap. My first time seeing the end result with my own eyes today when we drove by. Man oh man... someone is gonna get fired big times.
Nothing funny about this, really. Actually, very sad.
